Get in tune with nature as you learn how to plan and plant a garden using the cycles of the moon, planets, and stars. We will look at the old wisdom from Farmers Almanacs and compare it to the modern farming knowledge. Draw parallels between the sky and the earth as you watch the fresh greens grow during the day and learn astronomy basics when you spend the night under the brilliant stars at the ranch. 'Monty' the four-foot ball python, 'Max' a seven-foot boa, and 'Bonnie' a five-foot black rat snake will show you how fascinating and friendly these scaly reptiles can be. Join ACES and experts from For the Forest for this weekend event to learn about the mountain pine beetle and the threat it poses to the Roaring Fork Valley. The program begins with a short lecture and Q&A session at ACES on Friday night and continues with a field trip on Saturday to see the beetles in action. A hike up Smuggler Mountain and into the Hunter Creek Valley will give you an up close look at the beetles in their natural habitat. A local, organic picnic lunch will be provided.
