Ashcroft is the premiere cross-country area in the nation with miles of groomed trails. The towering 14,000-foot peaks of the Elk Mountains surround this pristine valley. The legendary Pine Creek Cookhouse has been recreated in a spectacular new log cabin. This renowned restaurant serves gourmet lunches and dinners. Enjoy an Aspen winter tradition with a guided cross-country ski, snowshoe tour by miner's lamp or a romantic sleigh ride to the Cookhouse. Lunches begin at noon. Dinner tours begin at 6:30pm. On the tracks of the free Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail system, the Aspen Cross Country Center offers a full range of ski school programs, guided cross-country ski and snowshoe tours, retail shop, rentals and a comfortable indoor meeting place. Located in the Pro Shop at the Aspen Golf Course. The ski school offers beginner to expert instruction in both classic and skate skiing. The 70 kilometers of groomed trails of the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System is unique to North America because it links Aspen and Snowmass Village and is the largest free winter trail system. Taking advantage of its location at the Snowmass ski area and its partnership with Aspen Skiing Company, Challenge Aspen offers a variety of winter activities, including adaptive alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are provided by adaptive-trained, PSIA/AASI-certified instructors. Lessons are available at all levels for individuals ages 4 and up who have a physical and/or cognitive disability.
